Oscar de la Renta has sadly passed away at the age of 82, ABC News reports, news that was confirmed through a member of the designer's family. De la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006; in an interview at the New York City's 92Y last summer, he spoke of his health: "I had cancer. Right now, I am totally clean. The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life."

Just a few days ago, a successor to the fashion house was named: Peter Copping, formerly of Nina Ricci. He also designed the wedding gown worn by Amal Clooney in her September wedding.
