All Hail Lady Lyanna Mormont, 'Game Of Thrones'’s New Queen Of The North

Meet the 10-year-old badass who won Game of Thrones

It's been said that when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die -- and Lyanna Mormont is a winner.

It took just five minutes of screen time on Game of Thrones for the 10-year-old to become the fan favorite for the Iron Throne and put Jon Snow and Sansa Stark in their places. (Sorry, Jon. You'll always be known as Ned Stark's bastard to Lady Lyanna.) Played by newcomer Bella Ramsey -- seriously, this is her first-ever acting credit -- Lyanna put Jon and Sansa through the wringer in Sunday night's episode, "The Broken Man," after they asked the tween lady at the head of House Mormont for assistance in their fight against the Boltons.

Apparently, Lyanna is not one to be fucked with.

Though Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North — whose name is Stark, as Lyanna rightfully pointed out — neither Jon nor Sansa are technically Starks. In fact, Lady Lyanna delivered her sickest burn when she questioned Sansa's surname. "Lady Sansa is a Bolton -- or is she a Lannister? I've heard conflicting reports." Oh.

She also had zero time for Jon's mansplaining. When Jon told her, "What you have to understand, m’lady ..." she clapped back: "I understand that I'm responsible for Bear Island and all who live here, so why should I sacrifice one more Mormont life for someone else’s war?" Daaaaamn.

It's easy to see why Game of Thrones fans rallied around Lyanna, Queen of the North:

So who is the fierce little lady? Lyanna Mormont's namesake is none other than the late Lyanna Stark, and similar to Arya Stark, it appears that this young Northener has a bit of the wolf's blood in her, too. She's an ironclad boss who's also a pretty great ruler. (That's hard to come by on this show.)

Lyanna came to control Bear Island after the death of her mother, a fierce warrior who died fighting alongside Robb Stark. The niece of the late Lord Commander Jeor Mormont of the Night's Watch and the cousin of eternal fuckboy Ser Jorah Mormont (the former Lord of Bear Island, until he was disgraced), Lady Lyanna is now the only Mormont left to do the job.

And she's also the smartest one currently still in the game. Lyanna won't take any of Jon and Sansa's shit, but when Ser Davos reminded her that this is actually a war between life and death -- and "the dead are coming" -- she did what she needed to do with her modest resources for the good of the realm. We wish the same could be said for the other fools in the Seven Kingdoms.

Jon and Sansa's "Northern diplomacy tour" gave viewers a glimpse of life in the North after Robb Stark's glorious fall from grace. "In Lyanna and Robett Glover you have two very different types, both of whom have been thrust into leadership positions they never expected to hold," co-executive producer Bryan Cogman told EW. "Lyanna’s mother and Robett’s brother having died in the War of the Five Kings. Sansa has suffered a great deal and so has Jon. But I think they underestimated the pain and suffering these other families have gone through, so that was interesting to explore."

In other words, Robb really fucked up, and it's about time the show addressed the mess he left in the North. Is it too early to petition for Lady Lyanna's new reign as Warden of the North?
