Bad news for all you minors hoping to land a homecoming date on your phone: Tinder is about to swipe left on you.

Starting next week, the app will ban all users under 18. For those scratching their heads and wondering “Wait, high schoolers have been on Tinder this whole time?!?” the minimum age limit until now has been 13. However, users aged 13 to 17 could only be matched with other users in that age range, essentially given them their own minors-only digital dating pool.

Still, allowing kids on a hookup (sorry, dating) app is still a major liability, especially because there’s nothing stopping an adult from making a fake profile and posing as a minor.

In an official statement, Tinder spokeswoman Rosette Pambakian said, “On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences. Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward.”

According to TechCrunch, the new ban will only affect about 3 percent of Tinder’s current user base -- and it’ll hopefully make it a much safer space to swipe.
