Azealia Banks Would Appreciate It If You Started Calling Her A Singer, Please

She may take a break from rapping

Azealia Banks has long shown a desire to dabble into an array of musical styles, but she's most often been viewed as a rapper. That, she says, has to change.

"Stop referring to me as a rapper," she wrote on Facebook on Thursday (June 23). "I don't want to be called a rapper. or a fem-cee, or a ‘spitta' or any of that shit. I want to be called a singer now."

It's not just that she wants to be called a singer, though. The Harlem native is hinting that she's done with rapping — at least for now.

"I'm honestly tired of rapping, the rap scene and the whole rap-girl persona," she added. "Considering dropping my last name and just going by ‘Azealia' and not rap for a while."

This actually isn't the first time Azealia has gone down this road. Back in 2012, she announced a similar sentiment, attempting to disassociate herself from her rap ties:

no longer wishing to be a rapper.

i never was…. and as soon as i started paying attention to bullshit urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game”… or whatever the fuck that means…

The singer reportedly has plans to head out on tour soon.
