Taylor Swift Casually Works Calvin Harris’s ‘This Is What You Came For’ Into Her Show

Hm, I wonder why ...

“I’ve never played this song live before!”

It’d be one thing if Taylor Swift was low-key performing new material for the first time since the drop of 1989 or releasing a never-before-heard track at her first and only concert in 2016. But nope. That’s not what she came for, and that’s not what she did.

Taking to the piano, Taylor was coy: “If you know it, maybe you could sing along, and I could get to know what that feels like, to hear it sung back to me.”

She then launched into “This Is What You Came For,” the song she secretly wrote with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris, which he’d go on to release as a Rihanna collaboration before it went on to reign playlists all summer (and take home the Moonman for Best Male Video at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards).

This is the bare-bones version, just Taylor and keys, which is a very different take on the dance floor staple we’ve come to know. She’d been rehearsing for the performance — which took place at Austin’s Formula One United States Grand Prix — and posting videos from practice earlier this week, but “This Is What You Came For” was definitely a huge surprise for all present for the show on October 22.

Well-played, Taylor. Well-played.
