Alicia Keys Made A Stand Against Gun Violence With Her Energized DNC Performance
Before she launched into a stirring performance of her song “Superwoman” Tuesday night (July 26), Alicia Keys took a moment at the Democratic National Convention to honor mothers who have lost their children to gun violence.
“I dedicate this song to the mothers of the movement and all mothers who have lost their sons and their daughters to senseless violence,” the singer said. “Until we deal with gun violence in this country, we can’t claim home of the brave."
Keys also reached out to Bernie Sanders supporters at the convention and made a call for unity behind Hillary Clinton. “It’s time to stand together and be unified,” she said. "We have to show the world that bigotry and fear will never win, ’cause we have so much in common.”
That marked a perfect segue into her new single “In Common,” which Keys belted from the front of the DNC stage. “Are you here for love?” she asked at the end of her performance. “Tonight is an incredible night for American history and feminist history. Don’t waste the vote."
