No one can watch the Daytona 500 without remembering what happened in turn four 16 years ago. It was in that turn that Dale Earnhardt lost his life in a last lap accident that left NASCAR fans in a seemingly never-ending sense of shock for days and months and heck, years to come.

In the same way, fans can’t look at Dale Earnhardt Jr. without wishing that his dad was here; they wonder how great it would have been to have him here to see Dale Jr. win races and marry the love of his life and maybe someday, become a father himself.

So on Feb. 25, it was a touching reminder of all that once was when NASCAR released on their Facebook page a touching compilation of moments between the father and son pair, moments that we often forget, of a much younger Dale Jr. interacting with his dad playfully and looking at his dad with an admiration that is somewhat breathtaking.

Millions have watched and been touched by the video already, which plays along with the perfect backdrop of Zac Brown Band’s song “My Old Man.”
And when those same millions watch the Daytona 500 on Feb. 26, they will once again be reminded how much we all wish this father and son were together again.
