John Stamos’ 4-Year-Old Son, Billy, is Starting to Understand How Famous His Father Really Is

John Stamos is getting ready to perform with the Beach Boys on December 5th for a Christmas concert and he’s promising it’ll be a ‘once-in-a-lifetime treat’ for anyone that loves a good Beach Boys-Full House mashup. It’s taking place in the iconic and legendary Carnegie Hall with the Holiday Vibrations Orchestra.

Stamos has been performing with the band ever since striking a friendship with them during his General Hospital days. They even guest-starred in a few Full House episodes, mostly thanks to Stamos. Now, Stamos is helping the Beach Boys mark the 50th anniversary of their debut performance at Carnegie Hall.

“I never forget how lucky I am. I never forget to say how grateful I am. I never forget to thank them over and over again. They’ll say, ‘No, thank you, you did this …’ I’ve done nothing,” Stamos told TODAY. They’ve been one of his favorite bands since he was a child, so he’s quite literally living out his dream.

It’s a dream he gets to experience in real life with his wife, Caitlin McHugh, of almost five years, and their lone son, Billy, who’s turning five years old in April 2023. Billy has been photographed at several of his father’s performances with the Beach Boys and he’s finally starting to understand the significance of it all.

“He knows his other (friends’ dads) don’t play with the Beach Boys. He’s pretty cool around me with it,” said Stamos. “We’re driving and ‘Kokomo’ came on. I said, ‘That’s your dad playing. Isn’t that cool?’ ‘Dad, do you know the Beatles?’” It wasn’t quite the response he expected out of his four-year-old.

And if you’re wondering how far the apple fell from the tree, it wasn’t that far. Billy has already struck an interest in playing the drums – something his father is pretty skilled at. Stamos explained that his son is finally starting to play a beat while listening to a song. We might have an incoming rockstar in the family.

In addition to the drums, John Stamos has played a variety of other instruments on stage with the Beach Boys over the years – with performances that date back to 1985. He appeared in several music videos and even sang lead vocals on a new version of an old song titled ‘Forever,’ which was put on an album.

John Stamos Honors Bob Saget at a Concert Earlier This Year

During his interview with TODAY, John Stamos talked about a Season 2 episode of Full House that featured the Beach Boys. There’s a scene in the episode where Stamos is dancing at a Beach Boys concert with Bob Saget, who passed away in January 2022. Stamos and Saget were close friends.

To show his appreciation for the friendship they shared, Stamos honored Saget at one of his shows with the Beach Boys earlier this year. Speaking to the crowd, Stamos explained how his dear friend was ‘bombastic with love’ before shouting out his wife, Caitlin, and son, Billy – the two MVPs in Stamos’ life.

“Whenever I get the chance, I talk about [Saget] because a) he’ll do something to me from up in heaven if I don’t. It’s just my way of keeping him alive,” said Stamos, adding that his death still doesn’t feel real to him. He plans on doing a similar tribute for Saget during his performance at Carnegie Hall on Dec. 5th.
