Two Twin Infant Boys Found Dead in Hot Car Outside of a South Carolina Daycare

Richland County, South Carolina police are currently in the beginning stages of an investigation after two twin infants were found dead inside of a hot car parked outside of a South Carolina daycare. According to WIS TV, the infants were discovered evening of September 1, around 5:30 p.m.

Deputies had been dispatched to the Sunshine House after receiving multiple reports that there were two unresponsive toddlers inside a parked vehicle.

As WIS TV reports, both of the children were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, the twins found in the hot car were boys.

However, while the children were found in a car parked in the Daycare’s parking lot, it still has not been confirmed if workers at the Sunshine House are involved. Nonetheless, the school has been closed until September 7.

The exact ages of the twin boys have also not been reported. According to reported Shay Simon, the scene where the boys were discovered was “filled with screaming and crying.”

Simon continued to share photos and videos of the scene on Twitter. However, no additional information has been issued to the public. The family of the twin boys was at the scene. It’s unclear if they were there when the police arrived or if they were notified after the children’s bodies were found.

Sadly, according to KidsandCars.org, in 2021, 19 children have passed away due to being left in hot cars. This is down from the 26 who passed away in 2020.

As KidsandCars reports on their website, “1,000 children have died in hot cars nationwide since 1990. Even the best of parents or caregivers can unknowingly leave a sleeping baby in a car, and the end result can be injury or even death.”

It’s so important to always check the backseat of your car every time you exit it, no matter what. Many new cars today have reminders for drivers every time a car is shut off. Our thoughts and prayers are with this family as they navigate this difficult time.

The investigation into their passing remains ongoing.
