If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that you can never truly know what’s to come. Except if you’re Pinterest. The brand recently released its 2021 trend predictions report based on user search data, and the new year will apparently bring epic charcuterie boards; more neon lighting; and, most important, the rise of the “cloffice.” More and more people are creating makeshift workstations in their closets to maximize their space for quarantine and beyond—searches for cloffices doubled in the past year alone. How do you make such a tiny space functional? From desks tucked into cupboards to Zoom-ready walk-ins, we gathered three of our favorite cloffice ideas from Instagram to kick-start your own take on the trend.

Remove the Doors

Ireland-based DIYer Cathy McGovern credits her young son Oscar with coming up with the idea to cut the doors off an old, dusty cupboard to create a much-needed home office. With a bit of sanding, priming, and painting, they set up an ombré space as cute as it is cozy.

Let’s face it: For most of us (especially those in cramped city apartments), walk-in closets only exist in our dreams. Take a page out of 2LG Studio’s book and transform one section of a wardrobe into a mini office. A bold splash of paint makes it more than okay for you to leave the doors open. But the best part? You can close them when the workday is over.

Dallas-based creative Lauren Roscopf’s cloffice has it all: ample storage space (those built-in drawers!), both mood and task lighting, and a floral wallpaper that will convince your coworkers that you’re working from a hotel instead of, well, next to your shoes.
