Today we’re touring the nursery of Ashley Dzurilla. As a mom of three with one on the way, Ashley, I think it’s safe to say, is pretty busy, but that didn’t stop her from designing a gorgeous space for her baby girl. This nursery is filled with nursery trends—muted rainbows, pampas grass, tassels, a changing basket—it’s all so naturally chic! Hello! My name is Ashley and I’m a mom of almost four doing life here in Ohio. Finding the humor in motherhood, loving on my babes and I’m a sucker for a good charcuterie board!
Where did you pull inspiration for your nursery design?
When I found out I was having another baby girl, I knew I wanted to add a pop of color to her nursery—something fun, warm and bright. I am really loving peach and pink colors lately but with a bit of earth tones as well. I also wanted to add a some whimsy to the space—something girly and magical. I would say another huge part of my inspiration comes from the name we decided for her. There are hints all around, if you look closely.
What part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
The design process began with the wallpaper. I saw it and immediately fell in love; then everything else started to fall into place. I wanted the boho feel of the rattan to somehow coincide with the contemporary look of the white crib. I also wanted some romantic lighting set up for late night feedings—something to give it a cozy feel.
What is your favorite part or detail in your nursery?
I think the tassel wall pendants above the dresser might be my favorite. They look so calming at night and really give the room the vibe I was looking for. But back to that wallpaper—I can’t get over how much I love the uniqueness of it. And the rug! I’ve seen and had so many floral rugs. I wanted something a bit different this time around. I also love the pink pampas grass, which reminds me of the trees in The Lorox, and it somehow matched the colors I was going for perfectly!
What is one thing that you would tell other parents to consider when starting their own nursery design project?
I would tell parents to first consider the color scheme they want. I think the color you paint a wall or the design/style/color of the wallpaper you like sets the stage for the entire room and everything else builds from there. Also, the vibe. How do you want the room to make you feel? Whimsical? Light and airy? Bright and warm? Busy or minimal? It’s all up to you! Last but not least—don’t be afraid to look for dupes that are significantly cheaper. Many times, with a little research, you can get a similar look for less—our dresser is an example!
